would I expect to pay for a fila brasileiro?
Fila Brasileiro puppies average around
$1000 - $1500 in the USA, depending on whether you want a pet or show
quality pup. Proven adult dogs can be anywhere from $2500 on up,
the sky is the limit. Oh yes, you can find Fila pups for as
little as $300 or 400 US...but buyer beware! Reputable breeders can
easily get their price for good pups...there must be a reason
puppies are offered at such a low price.
Rescue is an option more and more
prospective fila owners are considering, and the price for a rescue
is usually between $200 -$500.
On top of the price of the dog or
pup will be addition costs for shipping unless you live near the
breeder or rescue, and the larger the dog the higher the price to
ship. At the time of writing, Delta charges about $240 to ship a pup
under 20lbs anywhere in the US, and about $400 to ship a large adult
over 140lbs.
Ok, so over a thousand dollars for an
animal that eats poop does carry a certain amount of sticker shock for
many people...however, I can guarantee that once your fila has bonded
with your family you'll be telling everyone who will listen that it was
worth every penny, or a bargain at the price!
The smaller scale breeders who give a
lot of thought to their litters and spare no expense in caring for the
bitch and pups don't make as much profit per pup as the large commercial
kennels who have "dollar cost averaging" working in their favor.
