New Addition
After 15 years of owning only male dogs and putting up with wilted plants, a decision was made to go for the yellow grass patch syndrome instead and get a female for a change. It goes without saying it would be a fila brasileiro...but which breeder to choose? Although Del Rio X is a marvellous dog, he has no temperament or ojeriza and I didn't want to make that mistake again...so the search was on for a female of unrelated bloodlines and preferably of the CAFIB type. An examination of the bloodlines of many US breeders revealed that many have roots in Shooits dogs just like my male, which didn't exactly inspire confidence after reading some of Paul Schuets' comments on his website about temperament. I also noticed he calls his dogs "fila mastiff" and NOT fila brasileiro...hmmmmmm...maybe they're perfect dogs for some folks, and they're certainly pretty, but I'm looking for dogs preferably from working bloodlines, and if possible with extensive white markings...so the search expanded to Brazil.
Drew from Grendal's Lair offered to have a look while he was in Brazil looking for pups for himself, and he sent back a picture of Ms.Lua as a 7 week old pup. We were hoping for some pups from a white to white breeding which never materialized, so I made the decision to take Lua. She arrived in August 2005...and the ensuing months have proven to me that this is the way to go! More about Lua Barao dos Fila to follow.
