Can it be done? Yes. Have I done it myself in my home? Yes. Would I adopt a dog into a home with kids? No. I refuse to be a party to any injuries or problems to that dog in the future. Kids, being kids, have little true concept of what a Fila is all about. Once the kids are comfortable with their new dog they forget or will disregard any warnings or rules and eventually they will have friends over. Their friends are not the Fila's friends and that is an open door for eminent trouble. And then there is the rough housing kids do in play and tiffs, and struggles. The Fila will get involved and they do some serious damage. Again, another open door for getting that wonderful dog in trouble. Oh, let's not leave out open doors period and windows, and gates, and how smart and dexterous these guys are. In my opinion, it is setting up a potentially dangerous situation that very few people are prepared to deal with especially if the adopters are not thoroughly Fila savvy. You can read all you can find on this breed but until you have actaully lived with a few you will never know what being owned by a Fila is really about. Again, I stress this is my opinion only and it is one I live by.
